ULM Communication Science Study Program Holds Workshop for Lecturers and Communication Practitioners in South Kalimantan

Banjarmasin – The Communication Science Study Program is a study program that is considered unique because it covers various disciplines that allow for an in-depth understanding of how humans interact, communicate, and convey information in various social, cultural, and technological contexts.
Therefore, Communication Science students are required to have both soft skills and hard skills when they graduate. The competencies of Communication Science study program graduates are usually in addition to being research assistants, usually graduates can also become practitioners according to their respective concentrations. Various forms of practitioners in the Communication Science Study Program such as research assistants, Public Relations practitioners, media practitioners and advertising practitioners.
Based on these competencies, the study program tries to facilitate students by providing a continuous curriculum with workshops for graduate users and alumni. In the workshop activities, problems were found, including the mismatch of competencies possessed by graduates with the needs of the company even though they were already working in their fields.
Therefore, the Communication Science Study Program, Lambung Mangkurat University held a Collaboration Workshop on Partnership Projects for the final project of the Communication Science study program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, ULM on Monday (23/9/2024). The activity held at the Fugo Banjarmasin Hotel presented Febriati Nadira as Head of Corporate Communication of PT. Adaro Energy Indonesia. Tbk and Ade Hidayat as Founder of Forum Sineas Banua.
The workshop itself is an interactive activity or meeting, where a group of people with certain interests or expertise gather to study, discuss, or produce something to improve the knowledge or skills of participants in a particular field with participatory and collaborative methods. This is because some universities do not only focus on students’ final assignments by writing theses but also making projects.
“At the University of Java, it turns out that the majority of final assignments are not only theses but also projects, today it is believed to be able to improve student competence and graduate competence desired by graduate users,” said Head of the Ilkom Study Program Dr. Yuanita Setyastuti. Attended by dozens of participants consisting of Lecturers at Universities and Communication Practitioners in South Kalimantan, the workshop event ran smoothly and was actively attended by the participants.
