Barantin and ULM Collaborate, Optimize One Quarantine System in Kalimantan
Banjarbaru – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Cooperation Agreement with the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) on Tuesday (24/9/2024) in the Hall of the Faculty of Fisheries. The signing of the MoU was carried out by the Rector of ULM Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad, S.E, M.Si with the Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency, Dr. Ir. Sahat Manaor Panggabean followed by the signing of the PKS with the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries Dr. Ir. Untung Bijaksana, M.P.
This collaboration focuses on optimizing the One Borneo Quarantine System where the Indonesian Quarantine Agency collaborates with ULM to provide optimal protection for natural resources on the island of Borneo. Barantin believes that the quality of resources is the main factor in success in providing optimal protection for natural resources on the island of Borneo. Therefore, it is hoped that this collaboration can bring good synergy between the two institutions. “This scientific principle is very important for quarantine officials to have in carrying out their main duties and functions, and is supported by various related institutions including the role of universities as sources of information and knowledge that are relevant to the scope of Barantin’s functions,” said Sahat
Rector Prof. Alim appreciated the collaboration between ULM and Barantin. He hopes that this collaboration can also support ULM’s efforts in environmental conservation through the management of mangrove land which is currently one of ULM’s main concerns. Furthermore, the ULM Rector also mentioned that other support is in the form of protecting animals and plants for both domestic and export purposes to ensure they are healthy, safe and globally competitive.
