Following the Direction from Minister of Education and Culture, ULM Cancels UKT Increase
Banjarmasin – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) has canceled the new Single Tuition Fee (UKT) adjustment which was planned to be implemented in the new semester of 2024. This was done based on a decree issued by the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbud Ristek), Nadiem Makarim, Number 0511/E/PR.07.04/2024 on Monday (27/5/2024). “UKT will certainly be canceled according to the new rates,” explained the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Iwan Alfanie, dr. M.Kes., Sp.F., S.H., on Tuesday (28/5/2024).
He also confirmed that he would make additional payments for new students who had paid UKT at the new rate, namely prospective students who passed the National Achievement Based Selection (SNBP) pathway which had been implemented with the new rate. “For those who have already paid the new rate, there is a refund policy from the campus,” said the Vice Rector.
Apart from that, Dr. Iwan also said that this UKT adjustment actually had to be done. Moreover, to adjust the latest economic values, considering that UKT rates have not changed since 2013. “Basically, UKT rates are for academic development,” he said.
So in the absence of an increase, Iwan said, all state universities must be able to adjust rationally and proportionally in carrying out the education process. “This is to develop the quality of education. “We need to improve the quality of learning and human resources, which of course requires budget support,” he said.
Previously, ULM had planned to adjust UKT. This refers to Ministerial Regulation, Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Permendikbudristek) Number 2 of 2024 concerning Standards for Operational Costs of Higher Education at PTNs within the Ministry of Education and Culture. “UKT rates have been in discussion for a long time. Not a new proposal. “But after the Minister of Education and Research and Technology’s decision, it was finally decided that the UKT would not increase,” said Dr. Iwan.
