ULM, through the Institute for Research and Community Service, held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) regarding the valuation and downstreaming of higher education research results on Thursday (6/7/2024). This activity which was held at the Fugo Hotel was a form of the ULM higher education revitalization program which aims to achieve ULM’s target of becoming a Wetlands Center of Excellence in the Asia Pacific region by the end of 2027.
Downstreaming research results is very important so that the benefits and impacts of innovation and research findings can be felt directly by society, both for small, medium and large scale industries. It is hoped that the research carried out can make a real contribution to improving community welfare.
This was also welcomed by the Rector of ULM, Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad Alim Bachri, SE., M.Si. He also believes that downstream research is a strategic step to bring research results closer to the needs of society and industry. “By downstreaming, we can ensure that the research conducted does not just stop on paper, but can also be implemented and provide real benefits,” said the Rector.
The Rector hopes that the research results at ULM can be followed up by downstreaming for commercialization. Such as research related to medicines which are expected to become superior products that can be sold and are useful.
This is because ULM’s status as a Public Service Agency (BLU) State University requires it to have a business management unit that can market and sell products from downstream research at ULM.
“This year we will start a business management unit to downstream the results of higher education research at ULM,” the Rector added.
By presenting 3 speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Nurul Taufiqu Rochman, M.Eng., PhD from the BRIN Center for Advanced Materials, Prof. Dr. Eng. Kuwat Triyana, M.Si from the Physics Department, FMIPA UGM, and Prof. Sunardi, S.Sc., M.Sc., PhD as Chair of LPPM ULM, this activity was attended by 40 participants from the ULM valuation revitalization team, Dean, Academic Support Unit, patent inventor, intellectual property center.
