UPA PKK FGD Recommends Development of Encouragement and Collaboration Programs
Banjarmasin – Alumni have a significant role in the formation and development of higher education. As part of the higher education community, alumni have a role that cannot be ignored in efforts to improve the quality and reputation of higher education institutions. In order to provide space and a platform for the career development of its alumni, ULM has an Academic Support Unit for Career Development and Entrepreneurship (UPA PKK) which is tasked with bridging the information needs of the world of work.
Considering the crucial importance of UPA PKK ULM to the sustainability of the university and its alumni, a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) to increase the effectiveness of career development programs for students and alumni with the theme of limited liability company partnerships and the industrial world was held at the Fugo Hotel on Thursday (13/6/2024).
Two resource persons were presented by UPA PKK in this FGD, namely the Head of Strategic Partnerships for the Implementation of Independent Campus, Nurhadi MM, HR Department Head of PT Adaro, Teguh Kusmanto. In his presentation of the material, Nurhadi explained the challenges of alumni absorption in the job market that needed to be considered so that universities could better prepare their alumni to be ready after graduation. He also recommended various program developments
In this FGD, groups were also divided to optimize graduates, including the groups who succeeded in getting jobs. This group aims to increase the number of graduates who work by forming a work team consisting of lecturer representatives, administrative staff and student representatives to manage career development programs and develop strategic plans
Nurhadi in his presentation also explained the connection between many parties to maximize the work absorption of alumni.
“There are 5 aspects that are measured and all of them are related to partnerships and DUDI (Business and Industrial World),” he said.
Therefore, it is necessary to have broader knowledge, especially what competencies are needed by the business world and the industrial world. This has also become a plan for the City government in policy direction and for the industrial sector to create micro and macro workforce plans.
The second is the group that continues their studies. This group aims to increase the number of graduates who continue their studies by providing budget funds for scholarships for graduates who immediately continue their Masters studies.
Third, the group that becomes entrepreneurs. This group aims to increase the number of graduates who become entrepreneurs by improving the quality of learning in accordance with the aim of developing entrepreneurial interest and talent. It is known that this has been supported by the implementation of the OBE curriculum which suits the needs of students in the study program. Apart from that, the connection between the ULM Business Incubator and the Business Incubator from the Employment Service is also an important key in exploring the wider business world for ULM.
