Living Good Friday: Reflections of ULM Academic Community

Christians in various regions of Indonesia commemorate Good Friday 2025 with a solemn and simple atmosphere. Good Friday, which falls on April 18 this year, is an important part of the Holy Week series that commemorates the death of Jesus Christ on the cross as a form of sacrifice to atone for the sins of mankind.

This momentum is a sacred time to reflect on the meaning of love, forgiveness, and sacrifice exemplified by Jesus. After the commemoration of Good Friday, Christians will celebrate Easter on Sunday, April 20, 2025, and then Pentecost, which takes place 50 days after Easter to commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles in Jerusalem.

Head of the Bureau of Planning, Cooperation, and Public Relations, Drs. Parmasihat, emphasized the importance of Good Friday as the peak of the fulfillment of God’s promise in the atonement of sins.

“The event of Jesus’ crucifixion was redeemed through two things—a physically abused body and blood shed on the earth. All of this was done so that humans could be reborn and no longer live in sin,” he said.

He also invited Christians to experience this holy event by deepening their faith and strengthening acts of love.

“Let us surrender our lives to God, carry out His teachings, read the Bible, diligently worship, and do good to others regardless of their background. Because God never discriminates against people,” he added.

Rolin Lakamey, a Chemical Engineering student at Lambung Mangkurat University, also welcomed the Good Friday celebration with joy.

“Good Friday for me is God’s greatest gift and work for humanity. Because of His great love, God was willing to die in our place so that we, His children, would not perish,” he said.

Rolin also shared his habits in celebrating the holy day. “Usually I will do a ‘Quiet Time’ to express my gratitude to God,” he said.

Through this commemoration, Christians are expected to become stronger in their faith, strengthen their love for one another, and make Christ’s sacrifice an example in their daily lives.
