Rector Invites Academic Community to Plant a Million Trees
Banjar Regency – The Rector of Lambung Mangkurat University together with the ULM academic community planted trees in the Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) in Mandiangin, Banjar Regency on Sunday (11/8/2024). The activity entitled “ULM Planting, Green KHDTK” is a form of ULM’s Bakti activity for the greenery of Banua as well as in the context of celebrating the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in 2024.
The Special Purpose Forest Area is used as an educational and training forest managed by Lambung Mangkurat University based on the Decree of the Minister of Forestry and Environment No. 900/Menlhk/Setjem/PLA.0/2016 dated December 6, 2016. With an area of 1,617 Ha, this area has great potential for the development of greening programs and biodiversity conservation.
The Chancellor who has targeted planting a million trees in 10 years even accelerated his target to 5 years. This is not impossible, considering the large number of academicians, both students, lecturers, and education staff.
“For the target of planting a million trees in KHDTK, if the minimum is 100 thousand a year, it can be completed in 10 years. However, it can be accelerated because acceleration steps can be taken. For example, we can require students who want to graduate to plant, as well as lecturers who want to move up a level and other programs that can be directed to accelerate planting on the ULM KHDTK land,” said the Rector.
This is also supported by the readiness of the Head of KHDTK. Through this target, the Head of KHDTK ULM, Dr. Ir. Muhammad Helmi, M.M admitted that he was ready to support the five-year acceleration target of planting a million trees on the KHDTK land.
ULM continues to be committed to supporting government programs to preserve the environment and forestry. Therefore, the achievement of the target will continue to be carried out to realize this. Moreover, the ULM Rector added that KHDTK is the right place for the government and other stakeholders to be able to carry out various collaborations together in terms of environmental conservation.
“Moreover, KHDTK can also be developed for the benefit of research in the world of education in the environmental sector, so ULM can collaborate with the government and other stakeholders to maintain environmental sustainability in a more quality way for the future of our children and grandchildren,” added the ULM Rector
