Scientific Publication Clinic: Encouraging Faculty in Enhancing Publications
Banjarmasin– The Scientific Publication Clinic, a follow-up to the Change School event as part of the 66th Dies Natalis of Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), was held on Wednesday (August 28, 2024) at the Student Activity Center (SAC) General Building. The event was led once again by Prof. Dahlang Tahir, S.Si., M.S., and attended by dozens of ULM faculty members.
This Scientific Publication Clinic aims to encourage participants (ULM faculty) to be proactive in research and publication. The event provided services offering guidance and support for researchers, academics, or students in the process of writing and publishing scientific articles based on their field of study and research scope. Participants were required to produce manuscripts. Drg. Irham, the moderator, mentioned that there was a specific target for this event.
“The target for today, our second meeting, is to submit a minimum of 30 manuscripts,” he said.
A manuscript is a handwritten or other written document that has not yet been officially published. Manuscripts can be scientific works, literary pieces, historical documents, or other important writings prepared by the author before the publication stage. In an academic context, a manuscript refers to the initial draft of a scientific article or research submitted to a journal or publisher for review before publication.
The collected manuscripts will later be reviewed with Prof. Dahlang and his team to determine how to create a publication-worthy concept.
“This coaching clinic will be fully guided by Prof. Dahlang and his team on how to conceptualize the writing,” he added.
Publishing an article in a journal is indeed not an easy task, as there are many stages to pass for the article to be accepted for publication. Prof. Dahlang also highlighted in his material that authors are not the only key players in a scientific publication.
The roles of editors and reviewers are also crucial to the success of a publication. Therefore, it is essential for faculty to be able to produce high-quality articles that meet the desired standards. Prof. Dahlang’s guidance is expected to motivate faculty to engage in proper writing and increase the number of publications at ULM.
