UPA LLB Conducts Survey and FGD on Mangrove Land in Kotabaru

Kotabaru – The Academic Support Unit (UPA) for Wetland Areas (LLB) at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) conducted a survey of mangrove land in Kotabaru from August 12-14, 2024. The survey was carried out in collaboration with faculty members and several students from the Faculty of Forestry over the course of three days.

This survey was conducted as a follow-up after ULM, through the Berkah Wasaka Mandiri Cooperative, received a Commitment Letter from the PBPH regarding approximately 611 hectares of mangrove land in Kotabaru Regency.

A total of eight students were divided into two teams, each accompanied by UPA LLB staff and led by Forestry faculty members, Dr. Ir. Hafiziannor, S.Hut., M.P., IPU, and Dr. Ir. Susilawati, S.Hut., M.P., IPM. The survey covered six villages: Kemuning, Tanjung Pelayar, Tanjung Sungkai, Tanjung Tengah, Taluk Tamiang, and Kampung Baru.

In addition to conducting social and field surveys, UPA LLB also held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with village officials and residents. The survey and FGD aimed to identify the potential of the villages surrounding the mangrove area, including opportunities in forestry, fisheries, tourism, and household industries.
