Yoga, Regista, Alfitri, Meutya and Amelia Win Bronze Medals in the International Youthpreneur Competition
The team of students from the Public Health Study Program (PSKM) Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) succeeded in winning a bronze medal in the 2024 International Youthpreneur Competition (IYC). Yoga Putra Wibowo and 4 (four) team members, namely Regista Tri Puspitasari, Alfitri Chellyadiza, Meutya Az Zahra, and Amelia Rahma achieved this achievement by presenting a mini fruit pie product as an innovative business idea.
Combine Local Wisdom with Modern Consumer Needs
Alfitri Chellyadiza in an interview said that their mini fruit pie product uses sorghum for the pie crust and karamunting fruit as the vla. Apart from that, they also use the typical South Kalimantan kelulut honey as a natural sweetener.
“Our products support local agriculture while promoting the culinary traditions of South Kalimantan. “We partner directly with local farmers and ensure that the raw materials used are of high quality,” she explained in an interview.
She said that the products they make not only have the vision of being healthy and delicious snacks, but also contribute to social, economic and environmental sustainability. Apart from that, this product also uses environmentally friendly packaging wrapped in a typical Kalimantan cloth, namely sasirangan.
English Language Skills Tested
For approximately two weeks, the PSKM team held a series of discussions to develop this idea. After discussing and collecting various input, the mini fruit pie business idea finally passed to the pitching desk stage. The ULM PSKM team was included in the list of 40 IYC 2024 finalists after competing with more than 150 participants from 8 (eight) countries.
The challenge then begins at the pitching desk stage where the PSKM team must be able to convince the jury that the mini fruit pie product presented has great value and potential. At this stage, their English language skills are also tested. They must be good at conveying their innovations clearly and correctly and avoid miscommunication with a limited presentation and question and answer duration of 5 minutes.
However, the team is very grateful to be included in the finalists for IYC 2024.
“As finalists, we had the opportunity to take part in a week-long workshop which presented 6 (six) extraordinary speakers from various countries, all of whom were founders and CEOs of well-known companies,” said Alfitri Chellyadiza.
University Support Increases Confidence
While participating in IYC 2024, the ULM PSKM team received assistance from Lambung Mangkurat University, starting from brainstorming ideas to financial support. They said that the assistance provided not only enriched their ideas, but also gave them self-confidence and the resources needed to compete in international arenas.
“Input from assistants really helps us in increasing the value of the products we will bring,” she said.
Through the IYC 2024 competition, they also acknowledged that they had gained a lot of valuable experience and deep insight into the business world. Interesting ideas from other finalist participants and insights provided by workshop presenters not only enriched their knowledge, but also broadened their views about the potential for innovation in business.
International Youthpreneur Competition (IYC) 2024 is a competition organized by the Inventify Center. This competition provides an opportunity for young people to demonstrate and develop their innovative business ideas.
This competition is very interesting to take part in, considering that the focus of this competition is not only looking at aspects of financial profit, but also at the positive impact that can be given to society and the environment.
This competition invites participants aged 16-30 years from various countries to submit business proposals that are sustainable and have great potential for the future.
Participants who succeed in becoming finalists will get a golden opportunity to take part in workshops and mentoring, which will be very helpful in developing these ideas. The event takes place from March 4 to May 12, 2024.
