ULM Becomes Host of the University of Borneo Consortium, Building a Joint Commitment to Advance Education on the Island of Kalimantan
Banjarmasin – Dozens of delegates from dozens of universities from 3 countries gathered in South Kalimantan, precisely at the Fugo Hotel Banjarmasin on Wednesday (8/11/2023). The delegates gathered at the University of Borneo Consortium (KUUB) Convention which will be held over the next 2 days.
KUUB is a forum for universities on the mainland islands of Kalimantan or Borneo. KUUB was initially declared in Kuching Sarawak, Malaysia in March 2023. At the next meeting, Lambung Mangkurat University was chosen as the host for the KUUB agenda. There are 17 universities that have joined and are collected in KUUB, including:

- Mulawarman University (Unmul),
- Palangkaraya University (UPR),
- Tanjung Pura University (Untar),
- University of Borneo Tarakan (UBT),
- University Brunei Darussalam (UBD),
- Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (UNISSA),
- Universiti Tekonologi Brunei (UTB),
- Curtin University Malaysia.
- Swinburne University of Technology,
- Universiti Malaysia Sabah,
- Universiti Malaysia Sarawak,
- Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB),
- Universiti Putra Malaysai, Serdang (UPM),
- Mara Cawangan Sarawak Technology University,
- Mara Cawangan Sabah Technology University,
- University of Technology Sarawak (UTS)
This event was attended by the Governor of South Kalimantan who was represented by Expert Staff for Community Affairs and Human Resources Hj. Husnul Khatimah, SH., MH., Chair of KUUB Prof. Dr. Shahrulrazid Sarbini from UPMKB, Deputy Chief of Police for South Kalimantan, Wakajati South Kalimantan. Also present at this event was the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at ULM, Dr. Iwan Aflani, dr. M.Kes., Sp.F., SH. ,Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Public Relations Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Sc., Dean and Senate staff at ULM.
KUUB itself was founded on the initiative to increase commitment and strategic partnerships between PTN and PTS in Kalimantan. Among these goals are to increase excellence, capability, internationalization in learning and teaching, research and innovation, and student mobility. Through KUUB, efforts can be made to create a collaborative network that can strengthen the level of public education on the island of Kalimantan, not only in Indonesia, but also Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.
Having the vision “To Be The Prominent Higher Education Consortium in Southeast Asia”, KUUB intends to be serious about improving education for its members so that they are able to contribute globally, especially in the Southeast Asia region.
KUUB has also formulated its mission, in order to realize this vision, namely “To Champion Sustainable and Strategic Cooperation in Education, Innovation, Community, and Talent Development Among Universities in Borneo”. This mission is in line with the Tri Dharma of Higher Education adopted by universities in Indonesia. KUUB has also determined 15 fields of science that will be topics of collaboration between universities which will later be adjusted to the programs developed by each campus.
