ULM and YSDS Establish Strategic Cooperation in the Field of Genomics to Strengthen National Research Independence
Lambung Mangkurat University has made a very significant breakthrough in the field of genetic research through cooperation with the Satriabudi Dharma Setia Foundation, Tangerang. In her speech, the Advisor of the Satriabudi Dharma Setia Foundation, Erlina VF Ratu said that research in the field of genomics is very much needed in the development of science and technology.
The Satriabudi Dharma Setia Foundation has collaborated in the field of genomics with 35 universities. Indonesia has a lot of biodiversity, but the majority of genomic researchers come from abroad.
Along with the development and better access accompanied by this cooperation, it is hoped that all universities in every province in Indonesia have the sequencing tools that can be used in genomic research.
“This is so that we have a data bank that can be used together to support the independence of the nation. The benefits of genomic equipment are as instruments for genetic research, both humans, plants, animals and other objects,” said Erlina.
Furthermore, the Rector of ULM, Prof. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Sc., in his speech expressed his highest gratitude and appreciation to the Satriabudi Dharma Setia Foundation (YSDS Panin) for the research collaboration and submission of research equipment. According to the ULM Rector, it is very possible to carry out this research collaboration progressively and sustainably in the future.
Furthermore, ULM has the same desire as YSDS Panin to develop science through research and collaboration with various parties. ULM will continue to collaborate with local governments, the business world including all educational institutions from junior high schools to other universities in South Kalimantan. Even with the complete research facilities that ULM currently has, PTS PTS, large companies and SLTA no longer need to invest in advanced laboratory equipment, because they can collaborate with ULM.
Currently, ULM has a very complete and sophisticated state-of-the-art laboratory building and equipment with the physical building of the lab through SBSN funding in 2022 and has been inaugurated in 2024 and additional laboratory equipment through the 2024 laboratory revitalization program. So that its utilization is more optimized.
As proof of ULM’s seriousness in improving the role and management of the laboratory, the Academic Support Unit (UPA) of the Integrated Laboratory this year has just received a visit from the National Accreditation Committee (KAN). The visit was carried out in the context of accreditation of 5 laboratories within the ULM environment. This is done because the laboratory is a very strategic part of the university balance program at each university.
The Promethion Solo-2 laboratory equipment submitted through can be used for research on humans, animals and plants so that the South Kalimantan Police Chief has directed ULM to collaborate with the Bhayangkara Hospital in utilizing the equipment. In the future, with the increasingly complete equipment owned by the ULM Integrated Laboratory, it can accelerate its service information to all stakeholders, both in the Kalimantan region and outside Kalimantan.
The Rector hopes that the collaboration that has been carried out can continue in other segments, especially for innovation in the development of technology or research materials in South Kalimantan. To support the research, ULM already has a lot of land that can be used, starting from the tropical mangrove laboratory in Kotabaru covering an area of 611 hectares, the Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) covering an area of 1617 Ha, the Curiak Island proboscis monkey research area, the cattle fattening station, to the agripeka area as a research center for oil palm, rubber and other plantation crops, including robusta coffee engineering to always bear fruit throughout the year.
