Banjarmasin – Students of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Lambung Mangkurat University (FKIK ULM) held the 2024 PSKep Social Service activity at the Sungai Alang Village Hall, Karang Intan District, Banjar Regency. With the theme “Healthy Future Investment: Starting from Examination, Realizing Quality Life”, this event aims to increase public awareness of the importance of maintaining health as a future asset.
This activity was initiated by New Students of the Nursing Study Program 2024, accompanied by the management of the Student Association (HIMA). A total of 50 villagers participated in the health check and education on disease prevention.
The event began with a prayer and greeting, followed by a pretest to measure residents’ knowledge of health materials. The educational material focused on Diabetes Mellitus, a disease that many villagers suffer from. The delivery of the material was carried out by Ners Mutmainnah, Ns., M.Kep., who also provided direct health consultations to participants.
After being educated, participants underwent various health checks, including weighing, height measurement, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and a choice of blood sugar, uric acid, or cholesterol tests.
According to the Chief Executive, Ronald Januarta J. Deni, this activity not only provides health benefits, but also makes residents aware that health is a long-term investment. “Hopefully, this activity will provide valuable learning and create a quality life for the residents of Sungai Alang Village,” he said.
As a form of appreciation, prizes were given to 12 participants with the highest post-test scores. In addition, an award plaque was presented to the Head of Sungai Alang Village, Mr. Miftahul Khoir, by a representative of ULM, Ners Hary Wibowo, Ns., M.Kep.
This activity provides dual benefits, both for residents who receive free health services, and for students who learn about caring and solidarity. “Although small actions, the impact can be big on the lives of others,” added Ronald.
Through this event, FKIK ULM hopes to encourage the community to care more about health and live a healthy lifestyle. This step is expected to be an inspiration for similar activities in the future, emphasizing the role of students in improving the quality of life of the community.
