Layla Hasanah, Muhammad Rakha Priyambada, Zahratun Nisa Win 3rd Place in Soil Judging Contest Soil Festival 2024
IPB – Three students from the Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) brought honor to the University in the Soil Judging Contest Soil Festival 2024. The three students are Layla Hasanah, Muhammad Rakha Priyambada, Zahratun Nisa. They won 3rd place in the competition held at the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) with the theme “Soil Wealth and Sustainability” on October 25-27, 2024.
The Soil Judging Contest is a competition to identify the soil classification of a location by describing the characteristics of the profile (cross-section) of the soil and the surrounding conditions. The purpose of this competition is to improve the understanding and skills of participants in identifying and evaluating soil characteristics in the field.
Rakha and friends explained that the preparations were carried out thoroughly, starting from collecting references/study materials, adjusting the filling method with the competition guidebook, studying the material in depth, and field practice. Even though they had gone through preparations, it was undeniable by one of the teams that was successfully interviewed, Rakha, that there were still obstacles both internally and externally.
“During the competition, our team faced several obstacles. First, the significant difference in soil types due to differences in the area of origin with the land being competed in became a challenge in itself. Second, the health condition of one of the members who was not fit slightly hampered the competition process because they had to be more careful in recording every detail that was conveyed during the competition,” said Rakha
The competition process began with departure to the gathering point, reading the competition technicalities, departure to the location of the observed soil profile, distribution of competition tools and materials, implementation of the competition and review by the jury. Followed by a number of major universities in Indonesia, ULM was able to compete and prove their competence. The major universities that also participated in this competition were Andalas University, Gadjah Mada University, Jember University, Lampung University, Padjadjaran University, Veteran National Development University Yogyakarta, and Tanjungpura University.
The ULM team represented by Rakha expressed their pride in achieving 3rd place in this competition. Through hard work and effort, they were finally able to deliver 3 students of the Soil Science Study Program to achieve achievements at the National level.
“However, the achievements we have achieved so far do not make us complacent. In fact, this is a motivation for us to continue competing at a higher level,” he said.
Furthermore, Rakha also motivated other fellow students to continue to explore their potential by trying new things. Competitions like this are a valuable opportunity to hone skills and network with fellow students.
Congratulations to Layla Hasanah, Muhammad Rakha Priyambada, and Zahratun Nisa for their national achievements. Hopefully it continues to inspire!!
