Transformation of Educational Management: ULM Holds International Seminar
Banjarmasin – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) in Banjarmasin held an international seminar that gathered world education experts to discuss the transformation of educational management. The goal is to create a quality golden generation through leadership, empowerment, and digitalization. Prof. Ahmad Suriansyah, an education expert from ULM, stated that this event aims to generate new ideas to make educational management more effective and efficient.
Prof. Suriansyah, who is also the Chairperson of the Honorary Council and Expert Council of the Association of Indonesian Educational Management and Administration Graduates (ISMAPI) of South Kalimantan Province, highlighted that one of the weaknesses in the development of education in Indonesia is the leadership factor. According to him, the success of educational institutions is highly dependent on their leaders, from school principals to officials at the Education Office.
He emphasized the importance of an innovative and adaptive leadership model to the times to improve the quality of education. In addition, a superior school management model and educational leadership in the digitalization era are essential to achieving a quality golden generation. However, he also reminded of the importance of maintaining local wisdom in the development of superior schools, especially in South Kalimantan.
This seminar is part of the ISMAPI National Working Meeting and the 2024 Indonesian Education Management/Administration Study Program Association (APMAPI) Conference which will take place for three days at Swiss-Belhotel Borneo Banjarmasin. The opening ceremony was attended by ULM Rector Ahmad Alim Bachri and ISMAPI General Chairperson Prof. Ibrahim Bafadal from Malang State University.
The main speakers in this seminar included the Director General of Higher Education Prof. Dr. rer.nat Abdul Haris, M.Sc., Education Advisor and Teacher Specialist from England Philip Bebb, lecturer in Educational Administration at Surabaya State University Dr. (H.C) Abdul Halim Iskandar, M.Pd, Dr. Ishak Sin from Universiti Utara Malaysia, and Prof. Anabella Villa Valdes, Ph.D from Mindanao State University, Philippines.
The Head of ISMAPI South Kalimantan Province, Sulistyana, reported that the parallel discussion sessions divided into six classes were expected to produce a formulation to increase the awareness of academics and education practitioners about the importance of transforming school management and leadership, as well as producing a model for curriculum management, character education, and inclusive education services and counseling guidance.
