Banjarmasin – A team of lecturers and students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) has implemented a Community Service Program (PKM) which aims to improve the capacity of teachers in integrating digital technology and local wisdom as part of the implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5). “We are implementing this PKM program at Sultan Sulaiman Islamic High School in Karang Intan District, Banjar Regency,” said Nuruddin Wiranda, M.Cs., as the Head of the ULM PKM Team in Banjarmasin, on Friday (18/10/2024).
Through this program, teachers are taught how to utilize technology to support contextual learning, while preserving and integrating local cultural values. The goal is to help teachers implement P5 more easily by utilizing digital technology, without ignoring the elements of local wisdom around them.
The PKM team is chaired by Nuruddin Wiranda, M.Cs., a lecturer in the Computer Education Study Program, with lecturers Prof. Dr. Rusma Noortyani, M.Pd., and Dewi Dewantara, M.Pd., as well as two students from the ULM Physics Education Study Program, Muhammad Rizky Hidayat and Siti Marlina. In addition, there are two students from the Computer Education Study Program, Muhammad Yulian and Aulia Rahman, who act as field assistants.
The main partners of this activity are teachers under the Sultan Sulaiman Islamic Education Foundation, the owner of the Sultan Sulaiman Madrasah Aliyah, who play an active role in the entire series of training. The series of PKM activities consists of three main trainings. The first activity is the Workshop on Utilization of Digital Resources in the Framework of Achieving P5, which was held on September 4, 2024, with speakers Prof. Dr. Rusma Noortyani, M.Pd., and Nuruddin Wiranda, M.Cs. This workshop aims to introduce the concept of using digital technology in P5 learning.
Teachers are taught how to utilize the Google Suite platform and digital project management applications to facilitate the process of documenting and evaluating project-based activities. The speakers emphasized that technology can help teachers in compiling, monitoring, and evaluating student projects more efficiently and in a structured manner.
The second training was the P5 Workshop through Integrated Learning of Banjar Regency Local Wisdom, which was held on September 14 and 19, 2024, with speakers Dewi Dewantara, M.Pd., and Nuruddin Wiranda, M.Cs. In this workshop, teachers were invited to design P5 projects based on local wisdom. Dewi Dewantara emphasized that local wisdom, such as traditions, crafts, and environmental knowledge, can be integrated into sustainable learning.
In addition to preserving culture, this method can help students understand the local context while developing 21st-century skills such as critical and creative thinking. The last activity was the P5 Practice that synergized digital resources and local wisdom, which was carried out on October 2 and 9, 2024, guided by Dewi Dewantara, M.Pd., and Nuruddin Wiranda, M.Cs. At this stage, teachers who had received previous training implemented P5 projects directly in schools.
These projects combine the use of digital technology with elements of local wisdom, such as making video documentation about local culture or using digital platforms to display student work. Teachers were given technical guidance on how to utilize digital media to support these activities.
One of the P5 practices that synergizes digital resources and local wisdom is the practice of cultivating ylang-ylang flowers which is a local wisdom in schools. The implementation of this PKM is expected to have a significant impact on improving the competence of teachers at the Sultan Sulaiman Islamic Education Foundation, especially in implementing P5.
The head of the PKM team, Nuruddin Wiranda, said that the synergy between digital technology and local wisdom is the key to facing the challenges of education in this digital era. With the use of appropriate technology, the teaching and learning process can run more effectively and relevant to the needs of the times, while local wisdom is maintained as a moral and ethical foundation in learning.
Through the support of the 2024 Fiscal Year DRTPM Dikti Grant, this PKM program is expected to be an example for other schools in South Kalimantan who want to integrate technology with local cultural values in the implementation of P5. The collaboration between ULM and the Sultan Sulaiman Islamic Education Foundation is also expected to continue into the future with various other educational initiatives, in order to strengthen the quality of learning in the area.
