Banjarbaru — An international seminar themed “Accelerating Sustainable Fisheries Transformation in Supporting Blue Economy and Climate Change Adaptation Towards Sustainable Development Goals 4.0.” by the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM). The activity held at the Grand Qin Hotel Ballroom, Banjarbaru, on Saturday (5/10) was attended by around 250 people who joined as speakers and participants. They came from several institutions such as IPB, UNHAS, BRIN, UT, and the majority came from ULM with a ratio of 50:50 lecturers and students.

This activity is one of a series of activities to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of FPIK since the establishment of this Faculty in 1964. The Faculty, which initially consisted of the Department of Hydrobiology and the Department of Production Management, has now expanded into many study programs, as many as 5 study programs, namely Aquaculture, Aquatic Resources Management, Fisheries Product Technology, Capture Fisheries, Marine Science and Fisheries Socio-Economics. So, it is undeniable that this Faculty has produced many human resources, even generations of leaders, one of whom is the current Mayor of Banjarmasin, H. Ibnu Sina. For this reason, the role of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences ULM as a producer of superior generations and a major contributor to sustainable regional development should be taken into account.

In addition, with this activity, the Dean of FPIK Dr. Ir. Untung Bijaksana, M.P hopes that there will be an increase in the number of publications carried out by ULM so that it can improve the Main Performance Indicators (IKU).

“Now we don’t want fake ones. We have a proper contract, so when there is a green light there to be published, thank God it is happy news for all participants. In the Faculty of Fisheries, there are already hundreds of staff who are now presenters of international seminars that have a direct impact on our IKU in the Faculty,” said Dr. Untung.

On the other hand, it is also a form of ULM’s contribution to the progress of the regional economy, where this seminar discusses innovation strategies in sustainable fisheries management that can support the blue economy and adaptation to climate change. This event presents speakers from within and outside the country, such as Frank Stegmueller from GIZ, Dr. Michael Grant from JCU, and Dr. Untung Bijaksana from ULM. In the national seminar session, Prof. Safruddin from Hasanuddin University, Dr. Irzal Effendi from IPB University, and Dr. Dewi Kartika Sari from ULM were also present, presenting their views in the discussion session.

In line with the purpose of the seminar as a form of ULM’s contribution, the Vice Rector for Cooperation, Public Relations and Information Systems, Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Sc also hopes that participants can benefit, especially in terms of fisheries resource management.

“Hopefully, with this international seminar, we will get various recommendations related to the management of fisheries resources that are transformed to support the blue economy and to adapt to climate change in order to achieve Sustainable Development Goals,” said Dr. Azis.

The seminar, which was held in a hybrid manner, with the presentation of papers divided into five rooms: two for national seminars (Ballroom and Onyx Room) and three for international seminars (Intan 2, Intan 3, and Berlian Rooms), went smoothly. The good news is, all the papers presented will be published in the proceedings of national and international seminars, and facilitated for publication in SINTA and IOP Publishing accredited journals.
