Banjarbaru – The Animal Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Lambung Mangkurat University (Faperta ULM) together with the Animal Husbandry Student Association again carried out the HIMATERNA EXPO – South Kalimantan Goat Contest with the theme “Increasing Meat Consumption to Prevent Stunting”. The activity, which was opened directly by the Mayor of Banjarbaru, Aditya Mufti Ariffin, was a form of collaboration with the Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries Service (DKP3) of Banjarbaru City on Thursday (3/3/2024). This activity was attended by the Head of the Animal Husbandry Department, Faculty of Agriculture, ULM, Dr. Ir. Nursyam A.S., M.Si, Chair of the Banjarbaru City DPRD along with the Banjarbaru City regional leadership coordination forum, Head of the Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries Service of Banjarbaru City, Chair of the Hima and Animal Husbandry Study Program Students, Faculty of Agriculture, ULM, Head of the South Kalimantan Province plantation and livestock service, Head of Subdistrict and Head of the sub-district of Landasan Ulin.
In his speech, the Mayor hopes that through the goat contest which is held regularly every year, Banjarbaru City can become an area providing livestock, especially in the South Kalimantan region, considering that demand continues to increase every year. It is also hoped that this contest can be a strategic step in increasing livestock population and production, as well as obtaining quality goat breeds. “Banjarbaru is being encouraged to become an area providing goat livestock, in 2023 there will be around 13 thousand goats entering Banjarbaru City. “That means a good opportunity for business people working in the livestock sector, especially goats,” said the Mayor.
The Chair of the ULM Animal Husbandry Department, who represented the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, fully appreciated the activities initiated by the ULM Animal Husbandry Department students which had been planned since a year ago. Apart from that, he expressed his gratitude to the Banjarbaru City Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries Service for making this activity possible. “We can increase this activity to bigger and better activities, especially in the fields of agriculture and animal husbandry,” said Dr. Ir. Nursyam.
In this year’s contest, there were hundreds of goats registered as participants, coming not only from Banjarbaru, but also from all over Kalimantan. They competed for prizes totaling IDR 37 million, with seven competition categories that participants could participate in, with five nominations for winners up for grabs.
