Tanah Laut – Faculty of Forestry, Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) in collaboration with PT. Bridgestone Kalimantan Plantation (BSKP) in the 2023-2031 reforestation project. The inauguration of this reforestation project was held in Martadah Village, Tanah Laut Regency, South Kalimantan on Friday (17/11/2023).
This event was attended by ULM Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Public Relations Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Sc., Dean of the ULM Faculty of Forestry Prof. H. Dr. Kissinger, S.Hut., M.Si. Apart from collaborating with the ULM Faculty of Forestry, PT. BKSP also collaborates with the Japan International Forestry Promotion and Cooperation Center (JIFPRO), the Tanah Laut Forest Management Unit (KPH), and the Tanah Laut Regency Government.
This reforestation project will be implemented in the Protected Forest area of Martadah Village, Tambang Lagi District. Reforestation activities or what is called greening are a form of critical land control which refers to efforts to replant trees or reforest. This activity aims to improve the environment, restore ecosystems or ecology and increase community income.
This reforestation project plans to target replanting forests covering an area of 100 Ha. This year, planting will begin on 20 Ha of forest land, then planting will be carried out on 80 Ha of land the following year. In the future, it is hoped that if this project is successful, the reforestation target will be expanded to 300 Ha in a sustainable manner until 2031.
Using a community forest scheme, this project also involves the Sri Rezeki Forest Farmers Group (KTH). With this community forest scheme, it is hoped that this project can contribute to the lives of the surrounding community, increasing welfare, environmental balance and also changing the community culture towards caring for the environment and forestry. This reforestation project will also use an agroferstry scheme, namely that rubber plants, which are the main crop product from Bridgestone, will be combined with forest plants and fruit plants.
