BANJARMASIN \u2013 The Faculty of Law Team of Lambung Mangkurat University (FH ULM) won first place in the inter-student debate competition held by Bawaslu South Kalimantan on Sunday, October 27, 2024. In the final round, the FH ULM team faced a team from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) ULM. In this round, the two teams competed in arguments and did not hesitate to refute the statements of their debaters. Unlike the preliminary round, in the final round, participants answered questions asked directly by the jury, with each team given one minute to present their arguments.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tajmila, who represented the FH ULM team, said that they did not make any special preparations before this debate competition. Tajmila and her two colleagues studied more material related to election supervision according to the given theme.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn FH ULM there is indeed an organization related to debate, namely LP2DH. So, debates like this are common for us,” said the fifth semester student.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tajmila considered that the competition held by Bawaslu South Kalimantan was very good for improving students’ critical thinking skills. “I think this is very good for improving critical thinking, especially because the younger generation should not be exposed to hoax information. This is the first step for us to become a young generation that is not apathetic,” she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tajmila also advised students to use their voting rights in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections. In addition, according to her, students must become participatory supervisors in order to realize a clean and healthy democracy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Rizal Fahmi, who represented the ULM FISIP team, admitted that they only prepared for three days. Just like the ULM FH team, they also studied more material related to election supervision. Rizal appreciated the debate competition held by Bawaslu South Kalimantan and hoped that this event could trigger an increase in students’ critical thinking. The third place in this debate competition was won by the STT Gereja Kalimantan Evangelis.<\/span><\/p>\n

This debate competition is part of the series of peak events of the 2024 Bawaslu Youth Fest.<\/span><\/p>\n

“This is part of the Bawaslu Kalsel Goes to Campus activities, which are closed with the 2024 Bawaslu Kalsel Youth Fest, where one of the events is a debate and oration competition,” said the Head of Bawaslu Kalsel, Aries Mardiono.<\/span><\/p>\n

This activity aims to motivate students to understand more deeply about the Pilkada election and its supervision. According to Aries, students will be motivated to learn more and understand issues related to the election.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
