Jakarta \u2013 Risma Liyanti, a student of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program (PBSI) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) won 3rd place in the national short story writing competition for the National Student Arts Week (Peksiminas) held at the State University of Jakarta on September 2-6, 2024. Risma is ULM’s representative in this competition after passing the Peksiminas tiered selection starting from the faculty, university, to provincial levels.<\/span><\/p>\n

The National Student Arts Week (Peksiminas) which is being held this year for the 17th time is the most prestigious art competition for students. Peksiminas is a biennial event held by the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs (Ditjen Belmawa) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. Several competition categories were competed in this event, including pop, <\/span>dangdut<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>keroncong <\/span><\/i>and seriosa singing competitions; painting, comic strip, and social campaign media competitions; poetry reading, monologue competitions; photography competitions; dance, vocal group competitions; and poetry, short story, and play script writing competitions. In this event, each province sent its best delegates who were the first place winners in the regional selection (Peksimida: Regional Student Arts Week).<\/span><\/p>\n

Risma’s short story managed to attract the hearts of the Jury, who were national literary figures, namely Kompas Arts and Culture Editor, Putu Fajar Arcana; Writer Benny Arnas, and Writer Imam Muhtarom. According to Benny Arnas who was contacted directly by the Public Relations of FKIP ULM, Risma’s short story entitled “<\/span>Nyanyian Rumput Tetangga<\/span><\/i>” has advantages in its non-stereotopical protagonist, namely a grandmother who turns out to have a strong motive for why she is a talkative figure; its moral message is in line with the theme, and its writing is neat. <\/span><\/p>\n

“The weakness, although the characterization is not stereotypical, is not the same with the plot. The plot is stereotypical. As if killing the protagonist will make a prose seem literary,” she said wisely.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Risma expressed her happiness. According to her, it was extraordinary because she could bring the name of South Kalimantan to the national level.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I am happy and touched because I can do something that I never thought I could do. Happy to be able to compete with the best participants in the province. Thank you for the support from all parties, especially the faculty for their support from the start and also the university,” she said enthusiastically.<\/span><\/p>\n

PS PBSI Coordinator, Ahsani Taqwiem said that Risma is indeed one of a number of PS PBSI students who have a talent for writing. PS PBSI itself has a literary writing course, namely Creative Writing Literature, which provides students with the opportunity to explore and train themselves to write various genres of literary texts, both poetry, short stories, and drama scripts.<\/span><\/p>\n
