TAMBAN – Community Service Program (KKN) students from the Communication Studies Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), Banjarmasin, invited residents of Purwosari Baru Village to utilize plastic waste into useful items through ecobrick-making training.
The activity took place at the home of a resident named Suwoto on Wednesday (August 3, 2025) and was attended by local women. They were invited to practice how to fill used plastic bottles tightly with plastic waste to create environmentally friendly building materials.
The KKN group leader, Najmy Rahman, emphasized the importance of the sustainability of this movement.
“We want women to become key drivers in their immediate environment, so they can help address the waste problem in Purwosari Baru Village,” he said.
The socialization began with an explanation of the basic concept of ecobricks using simple, easy-to-understand language. The students explained that plastic waste, often considered useless, can actually be transformed into useful and valuable materials.
The Head of Purwosari Baru Village, Sri Gunarti, expressed her appreciation for the ULM students’ initiative.
“Hopefully, the students’ activities today will run smoothly and benefit us all,” she said.
The participants appeared enthusiastic as they filled bottles with pieces of plastic waste. The ULM students hope this training will become a positive household habit, not just a temporary activity, so that the movement to reduce plastic waste can continue to grow in the community.
