ULM PGSD Students Visit South Kalimantan DPRD, Explore Legislative Roles Through Democracy Education
Banjarmasin – A total of 60 students from the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program (PGSD) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Lambung Mangkurat University (FKIP ULM) conducted an educational visit to the South Kalimantan Provincial DPRD Building on Tuesday (5/27/2025), as part of the learning of the Elementary School Social Sciences (IPS) course I.
This activity aims to directly introduce students to the working system and functions of the legislature at the regional level, as well as instill democratic value and national insight into prospective educators from an early age.
The arrival of the group was warmly welcomed by the Head of the Trial and Legal Section of the South Kalimantan DPRD Secretariat, HM Andri Yuzhar, accompanied by DPRD expert staff, Dr. Riswan Efra. In his remarks, Andri expressed his appreciation for ULM’s initiative to establish a learning partnership with the legislative institution.
“This visit is a form of strategic collaboration between the world of education and public institutions. Students need to directly understand the legislative process, the function of supervision, and how the DPRD carries out its role as a representative of the people.” he said.
The visit session was filled with interactive discussions between students and speakers from the DPRD Secretariat. Students not only learned theoretically, but also discussed current issues that are developing in the regional parliament, thus opening up space for critical thinking in understanding the dynamics of politics and government.
According to Dr. Riswan Efra, this kind of activity is very important as an initial step in fostering political and constitutional awareness among students, especially prospective teachers.
“As future educators, they have the responsibility to instill a spirit of nationalism and active participation in students. So understanding the mechanisms of government is a crucial provision,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the lecturer in charge of the Elementary School Social Studies course and the leader of the group, Zain Ahmad Fauzi, M.Pd., hopes that this visit will be a meaningful and applicable learning experience for students.
“This is not just a field study, but a real experience that they will bring to the classroom when they become teachers later. Hopefully this will be a provision to instill democratic values since elementary education,” he concluded.
Through this activity, PGSD ULM affirms its commitment to producing educators who are not only academically competent, but also have a strong national awareness in fostering the younger generation.
