Banjarmasin – The Independent Learning – Independent Campus (MBKM) program is an initiative by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology aimed at providing students with freedom and flexibility in their learning. MBKM allows students to develop competencies and gain experiences beyond their primary study programs through various activities that can be recognized as part of their academic credits, such as internships, student exchanges, entrepreneurial activities, and teaching at schools. This initiative is also a key focus in the assessment of Key Performance Indicators (IKU), particularly IKU 2 and 7.
IKU 2 addresses student experiences outside the campus. Higher education institutions are expected to provide more facilities for students to develop themselves, not only passively in the classroom but also through diverse learning activities that equip them with adequate skills.
IKU 7, on the other hand, focuses on collaborative and participatory classes, ensuring that the university and its faculty can create effective learning environments. This involves engaging students and stimulating their participation in the learning process.
ULM is committed to meeting all Key Performance Indicator achievements. Several ULM programs have already integrated MBKM into their curricula to better facilitate students. However, many programs still lack MBKM offerings in their curricula.
This situation underscores the importance of holding the “Curriculum Reconstruction Workshop and Strategies for Improving IKU 2 and IKU 7,” which took place on Friday (August 30, 2024). Held at the Fugo Hotel, the workshop was organized to raise awareness among all stakeholders, particularly program coordinators, about creating more adaptive, creative, and globally prepared students.
The workshop featured expert speakers from Manado University, including Vivi Winny Saroinsong, S.Pi., M.Ap, head of the IKU UNIMA team; Dr. Alfrina Mewengkang, S.Kom., M.Eng, PIC IKU 2 UNIMA; Stralen Pratasik, S.Kom, MT, IKU 2 UNIMA team member; Daniel Riano Kaparang, S.Kom, M.Sc, PIC IKU 7 UNIMA; and Dr. Anderson Arnold Aloanis, S.Si, M.Si, IKU 7 UNIMA team member.
Vice Rector I Dr. Iwan Aflanie, dr., M.Kes., Sp.F., SH, welcomed the event and expressed gratitude for the visit from the UNIMA team. He acknowledged the workshop’s role in providing new knowledge and strategies to address changing times, especially concerning the success of the MBKM program and achieving IKU 2 and 7 through effectively designed and implemented curriculum reconstruction.
“Change happens very quickly; to compete and improve oneself, the key is adaptability,” stated the Vice Rector in his opening remarks.
