Launching of the Desmond J. Mahesa Building, Will Be Used as a Moot Court Building
Banjarmasin – Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) proudly introduced and Launching the Desmond J. Mahesa Building at the Faculty of Law as a moot court building on Wednesday, (6/24/2024).
The event, which presented various important figures, ULM academics, Desmond J. Mahesa’s extended family, and invited guests, the launch of a building built from a grant from Desmond J. Mahesa, an activist and politician who is also an alumnus of the ULM Faculty of Law.
Desmond Junaidi Mahesa, known as Desmond J. Mahesa, is an important figure in the world of activism and politics in Indonesia. He was an Indonesian politician who was known as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR-RI) since 2009.
This alumnus of the ULM Faculty of Law passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023. The grant of this mock court building is one form of his real contribution to his alma mater, which is expected to provide great benefits for ULM Faculty of Law students in studying legal practice in more depth.
The launching ceremony of the building began with the symbolic handover of the building through the signing of the inscription and ribbon cutting by the ULM Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, SE., M.Si. Furthermore, the invitees were invited to review the rooms available in the Desmond J. Mahesa Building. There is also a short biography of Desmond J. Mahesa, which is displayed to commemorate his services.
The inauguration ceremony began with the symbolic handover of the building through the signing of the inscription and ribbon cutting by the ULM Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri SE MSi. After that, the audience was invited to review the rooms in the Desmond J. Mahesa Building and watch a short biography of Desmond J. Mahesa, which was displayed to commemorate his services.
The wife of Desmond J. Mahesa, Dr. Hj Nurnaningsih, S.H., M.Kn expressed her gratitude and thanks, especially to the educators who are dedicated to educating their students so that they can become the nation’s successors who contribute greatly to the progress of the nation and state.
“My husband would not be in Jakarta and would not be able to contribute greatly if not for the teachers who have educated him so that he can make a great contribution to the nation and state,” she said.
The Rector was very grateful and appreciated the grant assistance provided. He believed that during his life, Desmond J. Mahesa always gave the best contribution to ULM. This is a form of charity by the extended family of Desmond J. Mahesa.
“Currently, ULM is the best university in the Kalimantan Region and Eastern Indonesia. This cannot be separated from the contribution of the ULM community and alumni,” he said.
On this occasion, the Rector also signed the MoU in the same place with the Unit Manager of PT Nusantara Power PLTU Pulang Pisau, and also the Chief Media & Engagement Officer of Hukum Online. This collaboration is expected to strengthen the relationship between ULM and various external parties and provide more benefits for ULM students and academics.
