Reminds of the Dangers of Mitotoxins in Animals and Humans, Dr. Ika Sumantri Conveys Methods to Avoid Contamination
Jakarta – Lecturer in the Animal Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) Dr. Ika Sumantri, S.Pt., M.Si., M.Sc., was present as a speaker at the Clay Master Class event on Thursday (18/7/2024). The event was held by PT Clariant Adsorbent Indonesia in Jakarta, in the context of introducing products in the form of toxin compound binders (mycotoxins) used in the animal feed industry.
Dr. Ika, who also serves as Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, Faperta ULM, presented material related to mitotoxins and their impacts and dangers on livestock and humans. He presented the results of research on cases and levels of mitotoxin contamination in Indonesia. Apart from that, he also presented the results of the in vivo test of the mitotoxin binder product from PT Clariant Indonesia which was carried out in 2020-2022.
This event was attended by animal feed industry players, livestock entrepreneurs, distributors of medicines and feed additives, livestock breeding centers, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Animal Husbandry Service, even students and the press.
Through the material presented, Dr. Ika hopes that participants will gain knowledge about the dangers of mitotoxins and their impact on livestock productivity and consumer health.
He also conveyed methods that could be used to avoid the impact of consuming feed contaminated with mitotoxins and the appearance of toxin residues in livestock products such as milk, eggs and meat through the use of binders. Apart from that, Dr. Ika also provided knowledge that not all binders have the ability and specificity to efficiently bind mitotoxins.
Apart from Dr. Ika, the Clay Master Class event held by PT Clariant also presented Dr. Muhsin Al Anas from the UGM Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Erika Kusumawardani, Regional Manager Asia-Pacific PT Clariant as resource persons.
