The Geological Engineering Student Association, Geological Engineering Study Program, Lambung Mangkurat University held a National Seminar on Earth Geological Engineering ULM 2024 on Saturday (30/3/3024). This event was held online by presenting a resource person who is competent in the field of earth, namely Dr. Joko Wahyudiono, S.T., M.T (Geological Survey Center for Structure & Tectonics Geoscientist), Dr. Suparoyo, ST., MT (Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation), Dr. Jatmika Setiawan, MT (Lecturer in Geological Engineering at UPN Yogyakarta), and Ir. Adip Mustofa, ST., MT (Lecturer in Geological Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Lambung Mangkurat University). The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ir. Iphan Fitrian Radam, S.T., M.T., IPU carries the theme “Mitigation of Seismic Disasters from Geological Activities in South Kalimantan”.
South Kalimantan geographically has an island size of 743,330 square kilometers. It is known that most of the area of Kalimantan Island is lowland consisting of peatlands and tropical rainforests. Kalimantan Island can also be called a safer island compared to other islands. If you look at it, one of the disasters that occurs quite frequently in Indonesia is earthquakes. Earthquakes are often found on other islands besides Kalimantan. However, last March, South Kalimantan was hit by earthquakes several times with varying magnitudes. This is certainly an unusual experience even though this disaster is not the first time this disaster has occurred in South Kalimantan. This is the aim of implementing Semianr nasionla activities as a form of education regarding information on geological activities that occur to the people of South Kalimantan, especially
“As students involved in earth studies, as pioneers of Geological Engineering studies in Kalimantan, we feel we have a role and responsibility to provide earthquake mitigation education in this national seminar,” said the Chair of the ULM Geological Engineering Student Association.
