ULM Dance Team Wins Gold Award at the 2023 Borneo Dance Festival
The Lambung Mangkurat University Dance Team succeeded in winning the Gold Award as Runner Up or Second Place in the Creative Ethnic Dance Competition (Ethnic Borneo) 2023 Borneo Dance Festival which was held at the State Culture and Arts Office (JKKN) Auditorium, Sabah, Malaysia from 7 to 10 November 2023.
The ULM dance team won by performing the Sarigading Dance. Apart from receiving the gold award, the ULM dance team also won 1st place in the Fashion and Makeup Award.
The dance team from ULM consists of 5 crew members and 13 dancers. The five crew members include Abib Habibi Igal as Choreographer and Fashion & Property Design, Fitrian Nurrahman as Assistant Choreographer, Solekah as Artist, Muhammad Amrullah as person in charge of Dance Properties, and Lupi Anderiani as Music Director. The 13 dancers are students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, class 2019 to 2022, and one is a student from the Faculty of Law, Class 2022. The Borneo Dance Festival (FTB) is an inter-university arts and culture festival which is attended by 3 countries in the Borneo or Kalimantan islands, namely Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam. This activity was held with the aim of showcasing the beauty of the cultural heritage of traditional dance from each university in Kalimantan.
The Borneo Dance Festival is held every 2 years. First coined by Prof. Dato. Dr. Jamil Haji Hamali, Chancellor of the Mara Technology University (UiTM) Cawangan, Sarawak at that time and also assisted by fellow leaders from all universities on the island of Borneo. The Borneo Dance Festival was first held by the University of Technology Mara (UiTM) in 2006 in Sarawak, Malaysia.
